I Love This Guy!

Whoa!  Don’t get the wrong idea.  I’m not starting to hang out in the same massage parlors as Pastor Ted.

What I’m talking about is: This guy ran a prank on the Swiss paper SONNTAGSZEITUNG by placing this ad with the paper–a totally hokey ad he had made himself–and having them send Gucci the $50,000 tab.

Hey, it’s not my newspaper–so I think it’s pretty funny.  Very Borat-like, and the guy even looks a little like Borat.  He has not been identified yet.  Keep an eye out…

Today’s Stock Market “Crash”

Oh, Lordy–this one hurt!

The Dow dropped over 400 points today. 

Actually, my Marketocracy funds didn’t fare any worse than the market as a whole, but, for some reason, my personal Real World money did (some of it is “leveraged” in the sense that I buy on margin and, thus, the ups are uppier and the downs are downier).

I left the office early today looking for a tall building to jump off of, but I eventually got hungry and came home and fixed a tuna sandwich.  Tuna, not caviar.  The caviar days are behind me for a while…

Oscars Post-Mortem

I did very averagely with my picks.  Sure, I got the main ones–but only because I went with the consensus favorites in the major categories.

Random thoughts: 

I previously mentioned that I had an Oedipal crush on Helen Mirren (who did look gorgeous last night!)  But now I’ve learned she’s really not that much older than I am, and certainly not old enough to be my mother.  I think men tend to “feel” like they are never older than 35…

Until they showed the clips for Best Actor performances, I had been unaware that Ryan Gosling (who was nominated for the interesting HALF NELSON) had been the young actor in one of my favorite all-time movies THE BELIEVER.  If you have not seen this latter movie go get it now!

Glad to see Al Gore win an Oscar.  Good thing the Supreme Court wasn’t voting on the results this time.

Where was Three Six Mafia this year?!  (I shouldn’t tease them–I actually bought a compilation album–CRUNK HITS VOL. 2–that had them on it.  Yes, that’s right: I’m a closet crunk fan!)

Best Original Screenplay Award?  Some day it shall be mine…

Will “Titanic” Director Sink Christianity?

Maybe he’s upset because he’s not up for an Oscar tonight?

According to TIME Magazine’s site, Mr. Cameron will be having a press conference tomorrow to reveal that he has discovered Jesus’s (and his mother’s and Mary Magdalene’s) fully-occupied tomb.  No resurrection!?!  Oh, dear me!

Will this sink Christianity?  Absolutely not.  God Himself could set up a cloud formation in the sky over Kansas that wrote, “The Buddhists have it right.  Forget all that Allah/Jesus/Vishnu stuff” and it wouldn’t make a dent.  People will still continue to believe what their mothers raised them to believe.   Here’s the scoop from the site:

Haiku

 When my children were small, I used to entertain them on long trips in the car by making up haiku poetry.  (Full discloure: Naw, I was pretty much just entertaining myself.  My haiku generally referenced how they might be punished if they didn’t start behaving in the back seat–the most dire punishment possibly be having to listen to more of my haiku).

Haiku is poetry of 3 lines: the 1st with five syllables, the second with seven, and the last with five.

Like:  “Welcome to my blog; See the beautiful pictures; Read my inane thoughts.”

Lovely and profound, right?

I found a site with some edgy haiku here.  Funny political stuff, accompanied by pictures.  Equal-opportunity insults to the Clintons and the Bushes.  Rated PG-13, so be careful if you are easily offended.
